Modern turbocharged engines with direct fuel injection –
petrol TSI and diesel TDI units – deliver lower fuel consumption and emissions without forfeiting dynamic handling.Direct fuel injection turbocharged engines have a flat torque curve over a wide rpm range. The turbocharging gives them ample power at low rpm, i.e. the level at which the engine is running for most of the time. In the lower rpm range, the engine is also quieter and features lower fuel consumption and emissions.Direct fuel injection enhances the efficiency of fuel combustion and contributes to lower fuel consumption, thereby also lowering CO2 emissions. The alternative diesel engines are fitted with high-pressure
common-rail injection. The
diesel particulate filter also helps to reduce the amount of particles in the exhaust gasses.
