Engines

The engine range contains exclusively newly designed engines. There was plenty of opportunity to accommodate the latest trends in powertrain design in their development. Drivers will appreciate not only the smoothness of the engines, but also their immediate response to the accelerator pedal, the optimal torque and low fuel consumption.

The Hardware

Comfort Features

The ŠKODA FABIA offers numerous comfort features hitherto available only in higher-segment vehicles. In this context, use of new technologies is no end in itself, but seeks to provide tangible added value to customers. This means no useless gimmicks are offered, instead making room for truly practical, technology that makes mobility safer and more comfortable.
Hill-Hold Control (HHC)
​The Hill Hold Control (HHC) allows for easy hill starts without the risk of unwanted backward roll or the need to use the handbrake. When you release the brake pedal after stopping on a hill, the HHC keeps the pressure in the brake system for 1 or 2 seconds, enough time for you to set off easily without rolling.
Onboard computer with Maxi DOT display
​The central Maxi DOT display keeps the driver informed of various trip computer functions, the outside temperature, the current time and the distance travelled (daily, since refueling, and total). It also displays information from assistant systems, the car audio or a Bluetooth-connected phone. The coolant temperature and fuel gauges have their own analogue indicators.
Car settings
​The “CAR” menu in the Amundsen, Bolero and Swing infotainment systems allows driver to adjust certain settings in the FABIA, e.g. the assistants, lighting or parking sensors.
Adaptive Cruise Control
The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) maintains a safe distance to the vehicle ahead at a selected speed, controlling the engine and actuating the brakes to automatically accelerate or decelerate as needed. The system combines a cruise control system with a radar-based distance controller.
Rain/Light Assist
​No rain or dusk will slow you down. The FABIA can be fitted with a rain sensor in the base of the interior rearview mirror to automatically activate and control the speed of the wipers. The light sensor activates the car’s lights automatically when the intensity of ambient light falls below a specified value (for example when driving through a tunnel or at dusk).
KESSY – Keyless Entry, Start and exit SYstem
​Open or close the door, start or stop the engine, all without having to search for your key? That is the comfort provided by the KESSY system. Simply pull the door handle (or push the boot button) and the vehicle will unlock automatically. Start the car by pushing the button located to the right of the steering column.
Rear view Camera
Providing you with comfort and orientation during a parking procedure, the Rear view Camera uses a camera located on the 5th door handle. Combined with ŠKODA infotainment radios and navigations with touchscreen, the system uses their displays to show the space behind the car and to indicate the driving line, based on the vehicle width.
Climatronic climate control
​The electronically controlled Climatronic climate control lets you enjoy the comfort of an automatically maintained temperature in the car. The humidity sensor reduces windshield fogging and enhances climate comfort.

Fuel and Money Saving Technology

The third-generation ŠKODA FABIA is considerate both to the environment and your wallet. Fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and the weight have all been reduced compared to the predecessor. All engines are new, comply with EU6 emission standards and boast features including a Start-Stop System and brake energy recovery as standard. Put simply: this ŠKODA Fabia is the lightest and most agile, environmentally friendly and economical Fabia ever.

Engines Modern turbocharged engines with direct fuel injection – petrol TSI and diesel TDI units – deliver lower fuel consumption and emissions without forfeiting dynamic handling.

Direct fuel injection turbocharged engines have a flat torque curve over a wide rpm range. The turbocharging gives them ample power at low rpm, i.e. the level at which the engine is running for most of the time. In the lower rpm range, the engine is also quieter and features lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Direct fuel injection enhances the efficiency of fuel combustion and contributes to lower fuel consumption, thereby also lowering CO2 emissions. The alternative diesel engines are fitted with high-pressure common-rail injection. The diesel particulate filter also helps to reduce the amount of particles in the exhaust gasses.

Drive Green

The third-generation FABIA was developed with environmental friendliness in mind. The low fuel consumption and emission figures hinge on the frugal petrol engines and the diesel units with their common-rail fuel injection and diesel particulate filter.

Low rolling resistance tyres Low rolling resistance tyres are a simple means of lowering both fuel consumption and emissions.

Lower rolling resistance is achieved by employing a different rubber compound, a specially designed tread and a higher recommended pressure, all of which also help to prolong tyre life. Less frequent tyre changes save money and are more environmentally friendly.

Gear recommendation The right choice of gear ratio can save fuel and increase driving comfort. Lower engine speeds equate to lower fuel consumption and quieter engine operation.

The gear recommendation can be found on the display in the instrument cluster. The symbols in the upper right corner of the display either confirm that the current gear is correct or recommend changing up or down a gear.

Start-Stop system The idea of the Start-Stop system is to switch the engine off every time there is no need for it to running, a particularly practical feature in an urban environment, where it cuts down significantly on fuel consumption.

The system does not require any input from the driver and allows for immediate acceleration, thus retaining driving comfort. The Start-Stop system is activated automatically after the engine is started.

If the driver stops driving after a while, shifts into neutral, releases the clutch pedal (and other conditions are met), the engine switches off automatically. As soon as the driver presses the clutch to shift into a gear, the engine immediately restarts, allowing the car to accelerate as readily as if the engine had been running on idle.

The Start-Stop system can be manually switched off at any time. The display in the instrument cluster shows the current system status.
Gaining energy while braking. More...
Energy recovery What happens when energy is recovered? Kinetic energy is transformed into usable electricity, which is stored in the battery or used in electric systems.

During engine braking, the alternator voltage is higher than the battery voltage (a maximum of 15V). The alternator then supplies the electricity to appliances and recharges the battery. This saves on the fuel that would otherwise be used for these tasks.

When the car is accelerating or cruising, the regulator voltage is lower than the battery voltage (circa 12V) so the car uses the electricity stored in the battery.

The alternator load is lighter in this mode, thus using less kinetic energy from the combustion engine’s crankshaft. The fuel supply is adjusted to lower power use, resulting in lower fuel consumption.
